Team Registration Deadlines

Team members that are registered August 5 (by 9:00 PM) will be included in the packaging for all Teams having their shirts/supplies delivered or picked up during Race Week. NOTE – Teams with 75 or more participants can have their shirts/supplies delivered on MON/TUES
to your office location. If a team member registers after that time/date,
they can still join your team but their shirts/supplies will not be packaged
with the Team delivery and shipment that week

Deadlines aside, there is ALWAYS time to add more team members! Registration never closes, even on Race day. Please send one more e-mail, make another phone call and get as many of your friends and family registered today as possible!

Teams Fundraising

Team Captains & Team Members can turn in their fundraising dollars at any of the Late Registration & Packet Pick events through Race day, August 14. On Race day: Look for the Komen Piggy Bank for the Cure display including a 12′ tall pink pig in the center of the Expo area. You can drop off your fundraising there as well!

Teams T-shirt Contest

Have you created your own Team T-shirt Design for the 2016 Race for the Cure? Send pictures of your designs (Electronic files submission &/or the actual t-shirt) to teams@komenkansascity.org or send to 8900 State Line Road, #333, Leawood, KS 66206 by August 9 to be entered in to the Team T-shirt Contest held on Race day.

Team Photos on Race Day

We encourage you to schedule a Team photo on Race day! They are free to schedule!  Photos – with our cameras or yours – can be scheduled between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM on Race day. Please send us an email to schedule your specific time slot on race morning! Slots are available every 5 minutes and locations are based on Team size.  Email us at teams@komenkansascity.org with your time preferences and we will confirm available time slots and location.

Weather

The Race is schedule to proceed rain or shine. Susan G. Komen may delay the start times if the weather becomes dangerous to those participating. Please be sure to check our website and social media channels to get the latest Race day information. More ways to stay connected are below.

Parking

With nearly 10,000 participants, supporters, volunteers and vendors, parking can be challenging. Plan ahead and be prepared. Additional parking information – as we know it today – is as follows:

  • Union Station Parking Lots: Enter on Pershing & Broadway from the West – 0-30 minutes – Free; Up to 2 hours – $3; Up to 4 hours – $5; Up to 8 hours – $8; Over 8 hours – $12 per day. $1/car donation to Komen Kansas City.

Note from Hallmark: Crown Center Lots: Parking locations: South parking lots between Grand Blvd. and Gillham Road, along 27th Street. Pershing and Retail Garages, enter at 25th Street and Grand Blvd., Pershing Garage, enter at Pershing Road and McGee Street, 2301 McGee Garage, enter off of McGee Street.

Please note, there will be a $5.00/car charge for using these Crown Center parking garages/lots; a portion of the parking proceeds will be donated back to Susan G. Komen Greater Kansas City. Only cash accepted.

Remember: streets will begin closing down around Union Station as of 600AM. Please be prepared to find alternate routes if necessary.

There are still volunteer opportunities for before, during and after Race. Click here to see what volunteer opportunities are still available. Volunteers will receive email reminders prior to their shift. All Race day volunteers, unless otherwise told, should plan on meeting inside Union Station at their assigned times.

Race Day Schedule

  • 700A – Race Venue, Expo, Survivor Pavilion & Kids for the Cure Open
  • 800A – Runner & Walker Warm Up @ Main Stage
  • 815A – Race Day Program Begins @ Main Stage
  • 830A – Survivor Parade (Pavilion to Stage) & National Anthem @ Main Stage
  • 915A – 5K Timed Race Start @ 22nd & Grand Street
  • 930A – 5K Untimed Runners & Walkers Start @ 22nd & Grand Street
  • 945A – 1 Mile Runners & Walkers Start @ 24th & Grand Street

Post-Race concert with Ivory Black begins at 930A and runs until 11A on the Main Stage Expo, Survivor Pavilion & Kids for the Cure will stay open until 1100A

We love kids! They make the day so much more fun! To ensure they have a great experience please be sure to stop by our special Kids for the Cure section of the Expo space in front of Union Station (Open from 7A until 11A). Games, prizes, food and fun!

Komen KC Baseball T’s / UltraMax Sports Shirts on Demand

Did you miss out on a limited edition Komen KC Baseball T-shirt? No fear as we’ll be selling them on Race day whiles supplies last ($27/each). In addition, UltraMax Sports is back with their Shirts on Demand Booth in the Expo space. Get a shirt, get it personalized and proudly display why you are united in the fight against breast cancer. Proceeds from both benefit Komen Kansas City. If you ordered a shirt for Komen KC Night at The “K”: you can also get your shirt at Packet Pick Up.

Breast Cancer Survivors Pavilion & Parade

> Join us in the Survivor’s Pavilion sponsored by Cancer Treatment Centers of America between 7A and 11A on Race day. Survivors and one (1) guest are invited to visit the pavilion on Race day for some extra special pampering, gifts, food, drink, music and more! Please be sure to wear your PINK Race bib to indicate you are a breast cancer survivor.

> The Annual Breast Cancer Survivors Parade will take place at (approximately)
830 AM on Race day. Survivors interested in participating in the traditional parade from the Survivor’s Pavilion to the Main Stage should plan on meeting at the pavilion at 815 AM and await further instructions.

3D Mobile Mammography Unit

Hopefully by now you have heard the exciting news that Komen Kansas City and our local presenting Race sponsor Diagnostic Imaging Centers, P.A. are partnering to bring Kansas City’s First 3D Mobile Mammography Unit to town. The unit will be on display for tours on Race day in the Expo. Be sure to stop by and see what your support of Komen has helped to bring to fruition to the underserved communities in our service area.

First Aid

Your safety is our number one concern on Race day. The First Aid Tent is located in the Expo space and is clearly marked. Any staff member and volunteer can point you in the right direction if needed. In addition, we have numerous uniformed police officers stationed throughout the Expo space and Race course. Any of them can assist you as well. Thank you to Truman Medical centers for their assistance.

Start Lines

> 5K Timed: 9:15 AM at 22nd & Grand Street (Please allow those with BLUE or PINK timed runner bibs to move to the front of the start line)

> 5K Untimed: 9:30 AM at 22nd & Grand Street (Everyone who is not running the course for time or those who are walking the course need to plan for this start time and location)

> 1 Mile Family Fun Run/Walk: 24th & Grand Street (Walkers and runners for the 1 Mile course need to plan for this start time and location)

Water Stations

The Race Course Map will be released soon and it will contain all (5) water stations and restrooms along the Race course. There are water stations and restrooms at/near the finish line as well. 

Finish Line/ Results/Awards

All Race courses finish at 24th & Main Street heading northbound. Runners and walkers should proceed through the giant pink inflatable finish line, grab a bottle of water, and feel free to go back to the Expo space to relax after their Race is completed. Timed runner results will be posted online after all of the Races are complete (after 11A on Race day). You can find those results at http://bit.ly/raceresults2016.

Photos

Our photography and social media team will be scattered throughout the Race Expo and Race course on Race day. All Race day photos will be available for viewing and free downloads by August 17 at noon at http://bit.ly/racephotos2016.

Lost & Found

If for any reason you misplace an item on Race day please check with our events team at the Main Stage (just to the south of the Bloch Fountain on Pershing). All items found will be kept for two weeks).

Emergencies

If you observe something out of the ordinary or are concerned about something on Race day please see a uniformed officer or speak with one of our Race day staff (identified by their Race day staff badges and located throughout the Race venue, at the Fundraising Tent and the Main Stage).

Additional Food & Drink at Union Station

Be sure to check out Parisi Cafe (Open at 6A for coffee & breakfast foods) or Harvey’s (Open at 7A for full breakfast service) inside of Union Station. A special thank you to Parisi for providing the coffee service for our Survivor’s Pavilion on Race Day as well.
