Meet the Summer Interns: Rowen Sears
It’s hard to believe the summer is almost over but in a few short days our loyal summer interns will be heading back to their respective college campuses … here is a little behind the scenes with our communications intern: Rowen Sears. Rowen has managed many aspects of our digital communications this summer including social media, grantee features, media contacts and content creation for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October while assisting Michael A. Levine in planning communications and promotion for the Race for the Cure.

Undergraduate Major: Communication
Career Goals: News Commentary or Marketing for a major airline
Where else have you interned?: KTVO-ABC affiliate in Kirksville, MO
Why Komen: There is a history of breast cancer in my family, and having lost my mother and an aunt to this disease, I felt that this internship was a perfect way to gain experience and honor my family.
What has been your biggest “light bulb” moment since you began your internship?: My biggest light bulb moment was learning how far our reach goes around the area. We have a 17 county service area, all of them relying on us.
If I wasn’t interning at Susan G. Komen I would be…: To be honest, I couldn’t picture myself anywhere else.
Perfect vacation would be: Somewhere exotic like Cannes, St. Maarten, San Tropez, or Mykonos.
Favorite KC Royals player: Hos
Favorite experience in college: Grilling and tailgating before every home football game
Message to Susan G. Komen supporters: We can’t do what we do without your support. Thank you all for your generosity and for joining us to fight to end breast cancer.
