Breast Health Center at Heartland Health | Success Stories

Susan G. Komen Greater Kansas City
One of the patient’s served during the ‘Mammothon” relayed that she had recently lost her mother after a 7-year battle with breast cancer. She is a mother of 3, and both she and her husband work but do not have the income to afford insurance at this point in time. Unfortunately, her and her husband’s income is above the financial cut off for assistance. She voiced that without the assistance of Komen grant dollars, she would not had the opportunity to obtain her screening mammogram.
JD is a patient who was diagnosed with breast cancer this last year. She is in her early 40’s with 3 children at home. She works and has a significant other who assists in household expenses. JD did have insurance; however, the insurance only covered part of the screening costs and the diagnostic work up was counted towards her $5000 deductible. JD was very worried about the cost of her work up and cancer treatments as she voiced she is currently living paycheck to paycheck. JD is just one of the patients who benefited from the Komen Grant dollars awarded to Heartland Regional Medical Center this last year.
