Hope Rocks for Lisa (Covington)!

Hope Rocks

If you spend any time with Komen Kansas City supporters or volunteers you will quickly figure out that we are one huge family. Women (& men) that come together in good times and in not so good times to support each other through the many challenges of life!

There are not many challenges in life bigger then when one of our own is battling late stage breast cancer … for more than a decade now!

Introducing Lisa Covington and our campaign to grant Lisa her wish to meet TV and entertainment personality Ellen DeGeneres! It won’t be easy but nothing worth fighting for ever is … so let’s make this happen for Lisa (sooner rather than later)!

Lisa has been battling advanced stage breast cancer since 2001. More than once Lisa has proclaimed that the Komen Kansas City support and the sisterhood she found here helps make her life better. It’s the energizing science, partially funded by Komen clinical trials, that is quite literally saving her life!

Lisa Covington - for Web

Lisa’s Komen KC family has been instrumental in making sure she is always seeing just how much she is loved. From driving her to and from the many doctor’s appointments and treatments to delivering meals and flowers throughout the week to even organizing an online “Blacklist” watch party for Lisa to get involved in on Monday nights (although this past week it was The Bachelor … go figure; he was in Kansas City)

A special Facebook page has been created as well … just another way for the community to show Lisa how much they care for her! You can join/like that page:

– https://www.facebook.com/hoperocks4lisa (Join this community!)
– Take a look at her Faces of Komen feature on KomenKansasCity.org

Recently, a number of Lisa’s friends, family and Komen Kansas City supporters came up with the idea of organizing a flash mob to the tune of Pharrell’s “Happy” … a number of practices were held and the surprise event took place earlier in February! Here are the results from everyone’s efforts:

Now comes the hard part … we all know Lisa LOVES LOVES LOVES Ellen DeGeneres! And our job as her friends is to get the two of them together one way or another.
